Seasons Turning Summer: A Plant's Guide for Creative Vision

Creative vision or a "signature style", is deeply rooted in a plant's identity. Throughout history, we've relied on plants for food, tools, gifts, medicine, and centerpieces to adorn our homes. Speaking of medicine, did you know that a plant's appearance can be used to understand its medicinal properties? This is called the "doctrine of signatures", a historical belief that plants are marked with a physical attribute that resembles a human body part for medicinal use.

Think about a sunflower, it stands tall and proud looking towards the sun for its nutrients, absorbing its light for that rich yellow color in its pedals. The symbolism of the sunflower represents enlightenment and inner strength-- this makes me think about the Solar Plexus Chakra. Chakras are energy sources that originated from ancient Indian texts. The Solar Plexus Chakra is located in your upper abdomen and represents confidence, personal power, digestion, and the color yellow, see the comparison? The light from the Sun helps plants take care of themselves; balancing our solar plexus and shining bright like the sun can support our well-being too.

The sunflower's main goal is growth. Like other plants, sunflowers grow unapologetically to become what they were always meant to be without comparison to other species. Not to say that plants don't adapt to their environments, so it makes you think twice about the company you keep. Have you heard about the "Sunflower Theory?" The sunflower theory states that when the sun goes down, sunflowers will turn towards each other for strength. Pretty cool, huh? Based on this theory, the sun will always support you in claiming your signature style. But if you're feeling low, you can look towards your fellow sunflowers to help you glow.
